Cape Refuge is a fictitious island off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. A small town with quaint sort of warm people who love their life by the sea and love the slow pace. They are very friendly and one of the most friendly things about this small seaside tourist town is “The Hanover House”.
Run by an elderly couple who long ago decided to dedicate their lives to Jesus and to helping other souls find their salvation they take in all who are troubled, homeless or have been in legal difficulties like a release from prison with no where to go and no way to make a living. They help people and try to get them to believe in their compassionate God in the process. The couple has been very successful and is a treasure of the town.
Then one day the two saintly servants of God are found murdered in their seaside chapel. Morgan and Blair, their two daughters are, of course, devastated and determined to find out who killed their parents. On top of all their grief the town council meets a couple of times and decides to close down Hanover House because the people that are brought in there are too dangerous. It is almost certain that one of them murdered the old couple and the whole town will be safer if it is put out of operation.
Well, it turns out that some of the members of the council have a monetary interest in getting hold of the Hanover House property in order to put up expensive condo’s or something like that. Blair and Morgan turn down the offers they get to sell the house and that only brings more trouble.
The final couple of chapters are exciting as Blackstock reveals the murderer as he is trying to get rid of Blair. “Cape Refuge” is a fine tale laced with lots of religious belief. At times it will make you tear up and it is worth the read. I give it a 7 of 10 on the Weaver meter.
